Having played on the same bill as world famous acts such as the Late Kuldeep Manak, Surinder Shinda, the late Surjit Bindrakhia, Hans Raj Hans, Manmohan Waaris, Bollywood star Himesh Reshmmiya and most recently alongside ‘Bad Boy’ Badshah, Sahara have an infectious style of Bhangra music that gives them an instant impact as soon as the opening credits of their songs roll. The band were honoured to become members and volunteers for Pakistan Red Crescent Charity (Red Cross) at a ceremony in Islamabad. Sahara were nominated in the ‘Best Band’ category at the 2003 Asian Music Awards and won the prestigious Oracle Awards in 2016 for ‘Longest Reigning Bhangra Act’ and in 2017 for ‘Best Entertainers’. The song was not only a huge radio hit but it was also appreciated around the world the song and more so in countries like India, Kenya, Pakistan and the UAE. In 2005, the Sahara brand hit new heights when the album ‘Undisputed’ featured their track ‘Billo Ni (Tera Lal Ghagra)’ and made the song an anthem almost overnight. Sahara have since become a very in demand live act around the world with their songs very prominent at weddings parties and club gigs everywhere! As the songs became more and more popular, Sahara set-off on tours to Canada, Norway, Denmark, India and Pakistan, Kenya, the USA and to Dubai where they performed at the legendary ‘Dubai Rain’ festival. The album sales were phenomenal and the song ‘Soniye Ni Soniye’ became the best-selling song of the year. It wasn’t until 2001 when Sahara released ‘Access All Areas’ that their global stature grew and overnight they became a name internationally. This album was closely followed by ‘Let Loose’ in 1994 which was produced by Johnny Zee and then ‘Blue Print’ in 1997. In 1993, Herbie and Kully formed the band ‘Sahara’ and released their debut album ‘Intemptation’ which exceeded their expectations and shot them to national fame. At the age of 11, Herbie performed solo for the first time ever on stage in Bradford, UK.
At the age of 10, alongside his brothers Kully and Gurps, they joined their local Bhangra dance group called ‘Nachda Punjab’ where Herbie served his apprenticeship playing keyboards and also singing for local bands. Herbie’s first recollection of Bhangra was when he started to hear and feel the music of the great bands of London - Alaap and Heera.
